Adobe has recently announced the call for entries for the 2012 Adobe Design Achievement Awards (ADAA). The Awards celebrate innovative students and faculty members from all over the world for their achievements using the dynamic combination of technology and the creative arts.

The competition – which showcases individual and group projects created with industry-leading Adobe creative software – honors the most talented and promising student graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, animators, digital filmmakers, developers and computer artists from the world’s top institutions of higher education.

Both individuals and groups may enter up to three unique projects in the following categories during the entire duration of the contest.

• Interactive Media:
Browser-based Design, Non-Browser based Design, Application Development, Mobile Design, Game Design, Installation Design, Innovation in Interactive Media in Education.

• Video and Motion:
Animation, Live Action, Motion Graphics, Innovation in Video and Motion in Education.

• Traditional Media:
Illustration, Packaging, Photography, Print Communications, Innovation in Traditional Media in Education.

There is no entry fee.

Eligibility

The 2012 Adobe Design Achievement Awards Contest is open to all individuals age 18 years or older who are students, or faculty in an accredited institution of higher education.

Prize

ADAA 2012 finalists will receive Adobe software and a trip to Los Angeles, California where they will be honored in an awards ceremony during the Adobe MAX conference, 20-24 October, 2012.

Category winners will also receive a cash award of US $3,000.

Design the Westwood College 2011 holiday card, and take part in this opportunity to compete with other Westwood design students at other campuses for a chance to have your original artwork bring in the holiday cheer!

Eligibility:
Only Westwood on-ground school of design students can participate

Prize:
The finalist will win a $100 best buy gift card and their design will be sent to more than a 11,000 faculty, staff,students,and friends of Westwood!

Submission:
Due date is Sunday,December 4th

Unlike many of the other poster competitions posted on this site, The Ravinia competition is open only to Students.  Also while it is open to the whole country, it seems to be more popular among those in the Chicago Area.  That means your chances for winning here are definitely higher than in other contests.

Ravinia is a outdoor music venue located in Highland Park and every summer thousands of people come there to picnic on their lawns and take in music ranging from Yo Yo Ma to Blondie.  They are looking for poster designs that is “visually appealing” and captures the “musical summertime mood” of this very special festival.

Requirements:

Deadline December 1

Entry Format:  9″ x 13.5″  printed on 11″ x 17″ paper.  Mounted

Text:  Ravinia or Ravinia Festival; Highland Park, IL Summer 2012; Celebrating the Women’s Board 50th Year.

Multicolor rendering to print in six total colors: four-color process + PMS +varnish or five flat colors + varnish

Final Output size of poster is 24″ x 36″ 300dpi

Include the entry form and proof of student enrollment (copy of school ID)

Please note that the card design should celebrate the holiday season, but not be specific to any religious beliefs or celebrations.

HOW THE CONTEST WORKS

•  Each campus will hold a holiday card design contest with School of Design students.

•  A finalist will be chosen from each campus to be considered as the system-wide winner.

•  Central Administration judges will review campus finalists and select the system-wide winning design that will be used for the Westwood College 2010 holiday card.

PRIZE

The system-wide winner will receive a $100 Best Buy gift certificate and their design printed on more than 11,000 cards.

DUE DATE

Sunday, November 28th – Email a JPG of your design to the director of student services on your campus.

Its time again for the Ravinia Poster Contest!

For over 30 years, the Women’s Board of Ravinia Festival has sponsored an annual competition to select the design that will become the unique poster used to promote the festival’s season. The annual poster and its principal design image become a distinctive signature of the Ravinia Festival season. It should therefore convey the rich experience of enjoying outstanding musical performances in this lush and historic outdoor park.

High school and college participants may submit only one entry. Entries must be sent to the Ravinia Festival at 418 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, IL 60035, no later than Friday, December 3, 2010. Judging is on the basis of graphics and design quality and will take place on Thursday, December 9, 2010.

If you would like help preparing or sending in your entries, speak to David Rodriguez (drodriguez@westwood.edu) and he can help with critique, prep or postage.

Awards:
1st prize: $1000

Congratulations to Nicolas Diaz, Diana Hamdan, Lashelle Harper, Joseph Olenik, Mia Moore, Richard Vega, and Randall Witte. For the last 3 years, they have been successfully navigating through Westwood College design curriculum that emphasizes the roles of social context media and aesthetic in the production of visual language.

Graduating students’ portfolios demonstrated well-established foundation of formal, aesthetic and analytical knowledge, and a nibble response to the constant change in visual communication, burgeoning technology and floods of data. Take a look at the below images.
