Also while it is open to the whole country, it seems to be more popular among those in the Chicago Area. That means your chances for winning here are definitely higher than in other contests.
Ravinia is a outdoor music venue located in Highland Park and every summer thousands of people come there to picnic on their lawns and take in music ranging from Yo Yo Ma to Blondie. They are looking for poster designs that is “visually appealing” and captures the “musical summertime mood” of this very special festival.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Urban Apple logo contest. We had a total of 10 entries from 6 people. Which was a really good turnout for the small amount of time given for the project. There was some really great work submitted but there could only be one winner…. or could there?
In the end, Machelle picked two student designs to combine into one super design for her logo. The two winners were Brandon Chase and Matt Hecht. You can see their designs below:
Machelle really liked Brandon’s concept alot and she really liked Matt’s logo as well, especially the text. So we took both of them, combined them and vectorized Brandon’s Photoshop design to get the final logo below:
Machelle was able to look past the aesthetics of the original logo and recognize the power of a good concept. An interesting side note: Brandon created his design by taking an apple, carving it, photographing the result and altering the image in photoshop. In the end it is such a simple image but there was an incredible amount of work put into it.

Its time again for the Ravinia Poster Contest!
For over 30 years, the Women’s Board of Ravinia Festival has sponsored an annual competition to select the design that will become the unique poster used to promote the festival’s season. The annual poster and its principal design image become a distinctive signature of the Ravinia Festival season. Congratulations to Nicolas Diaz, Diana Hamdan, Lashelle Harper, Joseph Olenik, Mia Moore, Richard Vega, and Randall Witte. For the last 3 years, they have been successfully navigating through Westwood College design curriculum that emphasizes the roles of social context media and aesthetic in the production of visual language.
Graduating students’ portfolios demonstrated well-established foundation of formal, aesthetic and analytical knowledge, and a nibble response to the constant change in visual communication, burgeoning technology and floods of data. Take a look at the below images.

Due Date: Sep 8, 5pm.
Jerome Matthews, an instructor in business administration here at Westwood is offering $75 to the best logo design for his business: MaMMy Enterainment. It is an independent Hip-Hop record label that promotes more socially conscious rap. Below is more information from Jerome.
“I would like to first start off by thanking you all for your participation in this contest. David asked me to give you a little background on MaMMy Entertainment to aid in your creative process. The term “mammy” was coined by a friend of ours that passed away earlier this year. It is a derivative of saying, “On my mother” which is meant to insinuate honesty. The 3 “M’s” are capitalized because they represent the three owners of MaMMy, which are Courtney “Tex Message” Matthews, Terry Matthews, and me, Jerome Matthews.
I welcome your creativity; however, I must ask you to refrain from using any imagery that promotes violence (i.e. guns, blood, gang paraphernalia, etc.). We have seen enough urban violence to last three lifetimes and we do not want to be a part of this vicious artistic cycle. We are from Gary, Indiana, so you may look to Gary for inspiration. Below is a link which enables you to listen and hear our latest project and attached is the album artwork.”
Submissions should be CMYK AI file or very good resolution (300dpi ) large photoshop file. Submissions should be emailed to David Rodriguez at drodriguez@westwood.edu by Wed, Sep 8 5pm.
